Comment on Eminent Person 2013- Introduction by Benjamin

Hi Eric,

I really enjoyed the way that you formatted your post! There’s a good balance of the photo, white space, and text. In your final paragraph, you say “Two things I dream to accomplish”. Are there two things that Ali has done that you want to accomplish yourself? What made you choose him?

Keep up the good work!

Comment on Eminent Person: Samuel L Jackson by Benjamin

Hey James,

Love the way that you explain who Jackson was, and other noteworthy things that he’s done in his life (like being a part of the civil rights movement). However, your post would be better if you added some pictures, and expanded on the reasons why you chose him. For instance, you stated that he has admirable ethics. Is this something that you are trying to achieve? Do you hold yourself to similar morals?

Other than that, this is a great intro.

Comment on Eminent Person – Jimmy Wong by talonslyleh

Hi Elle,
It is possible that you have Jimmy confused with someone else. He’s experienced only a moderate amount of fame online, and with so many internet artists out there, it can be easy to mistake one name for another artist.

I wanted to research deeper, but on his Wikipedia article his early life is only lightly covered at the college level, and he is pretty tight-lipped on his pre-YouTube days on videos.

I think part of the reason why I chose Jimmy over his brother or Bangalter, is because both have reached a very high level of fame. Freddy Wong has several million subscribers online, and is now directing movies and TV Shows. Bangalter is known the world over, and makes Gold and Platinum sales on most of their albums and singles. I think I chose Jimmy because when you watch a video featuring him, he seems like someone you can genuinely relate to, since he has not reached such a high level of fame, he takes time to personalize videos and respond to most, making him more eminent, to me, even if, in regards to recognition, he is less eminent.

Hi Eric,
You did a really great job with this post. I didn’t know much about Mohammad Ali at all, but now I certainly do know more after reading this. So good job with covering the points of his life which shaped him into the great influential person he was. I just have a small question for you, how did you come about to decide to do him for your eminent project this year?

Comment on Eminent Person – Jimmy Wong by Elle

Hey Lyle, the name rung a bell in my head, but unfortunately when I googled him he wasn’t familiar. Maybe I was mixing up his name with someone else? Either way I think he’s a good choice for an eminent person from reading your blog post, but perhaps you could research a little deeper. Find out what he was like as a child and if something from his childhood contributed to his career choice or other choices he’s made. Perhaps something he heard about when he was younger caused him to respond to the racist girl the way he did?

Mr. Jackson’s already asked what you think makes him eminent so rather than re-asking, I’ll ask you why you chose to research Jimmy rather than the others you mentioned? Do you feel a stronger connection to Jimmy, feel like he impacted society more or is it because you just genuinely find him the most interesting?

Hello Emma! Reading through your post, I was struck by how honest your choice of Eminent was. I understand what you mean by pre-conceived notions, they seem to exist everywhere in our society. I applaud your choice of eminent though, she’s a very lovely dancer, and I’m excited to see what you’ll do with her! Especially with your different POV for the speech. Gosh, I’m actually not sure what questions to ask! You’ve seemed to hit the nail on the head with all the basics! ouo
One tip for later though, if you do double spacing and split the images up between the post it’s a lot less of a wall of text. ヽ(*・ω・)ノ♪ (My blog is kinda an example at that, I make sure my posts always look pretty, possibly to compensate haha.)
Best of luck!

Comment on Eminent Person 2013: Just the Beginning by Tiffany

Hey Waleed!
Beethoven is the perfect pick for you. He’s so musically talented, as are you. I see that you’ve recognized this connection as well.

What is it about him that inspires you? His life in general, or the fact that he kept playing and producing compositions even after he lost his hearing?

Beethoven has definitely made a mark on this world, considering how many people remember him today. How is he special to you and how has he contributed to your life as a pianist? What kind of message or encouragement do you get from his story?

Eminent is a super great project in which you really do develop a personal connection with the person you’re studying.

I hope that your efforts further the connection that you feel towards him right now!

Best of luck.

Hi Crystal,
Your eminent person seems really interesting, I actually love the sound of it. I have to say, pictures would make this post hugely better for me just because I (and probably other people) are interested in what she might look like, and enjoy eye-catching posts best. How does Eleanor of Aquitaine relate to you a bit more? I’m also curious, what did Eleanor accomplish, and what was her persona like?
