Annie, I really enjoyed your presentation and found your topic really original. I had no idea that we had the ability to take carbon back out of our atmosphere in this way. I liked how you animated the video yourself, I feel it added a personal touch to your presentation. I can’t imagine how much work it was animating the presentation. I am wondering if the production of these synthetic trees is eco-friendly, since they seem to be very effective but are they worth the production pollution?

Thanks Dylan. In response to your question, GMO’s themselves have largely the same effect on oceanic pollution as other plants. Most GMO’s we use are adapted for other reasons than pollution, and still require nutrients to grow. Fertilizers are used in most crops GMO or not since fertilizers increase the nutrients available to plants. Although I am sure there are certain plants which are adapted to be more resourceful and do not need fertilizers, in order to have an effect on dead zones they would have to become more popular.

Thanks for commenting grace, I’m glad you learned something from the video. In response to your question, algae that are formed is whatever is native to the area. The problem with this algae is not that it exists, but that it exists in too large quantities for the ecosystem to handle. Hope that helps.

Hi Noah,
I really liked the visuals and animations throughout your presentation. The topic is super interesting! I am wondering how ethically correct and effective prosthetics would be in stopping aging. Wouldn’t our other body parts keep aging, and how much robotic parts can we add before the person is a robot and not a person?
