Thank you for the advice! I will make sure to take pictures of the process from now on!
Working my way from the bottom up. Starting off with the easiest treats such as the cookies and hopefully working my way up to cakes!
Most of the time during my sessions, I start off with a skill based exercise. Whether that be a light run or doing the beep test, it is an activity that gets my heart pumped and ready. Then, is the “workout of the day” which consist of high interval training. So far, I’ve done power cleans, running with weights, burpees, pull-ups, weighted lunges, etc. It is pretty intense, especially when everything is very fast pace. At the end of the workout, we do either a game such as pull the flag, or sometimes we do a band run. A band run is basically where you take a really thick elastic band around your waist, and your partner uses resistance to pull you back, so it becomes harder to run. I haven’t gotten the chance to measure my progress seeing I’m forgetful to take photos of the blackboard with the workout of the day, but by the next blog post, I will have one photo, and possibly one video of me doing an exercise!
Glad to hear that you finally met your mentor. Sounds like you had a very productive first session. I would love to read more about what it takes to do each step you described above. Pretend that you are instructing us to add, for example, white nois…
Thanks for this reflective and thoughtful post! I think you’ve set some worthwhile goals for the coming semester. Something that might bear broader discussion among your peers: “I want to improve my skills in dealing with touchy concepts and people with different beliefs than I do.” It might be interesting to try and collect a catalogue of the various topics, ideas, or opinions that may offend people, and see what can be learned from comparing them to similar taboos or offences of the past. Might be something to consider as a Philosophy Pop Quiz Question tomorrow… ; )
Great opening post, Mira! I like the focus on narrating your learning and being able to think and reflect on your goals for yourself as we explore history this semester. I’m looking forward to seeing Big Idea #3 unfold and intersect with the new curriculum, as well as your own learning in the next few months!
Thank you Julia!
I have followed up with Mr. Jackson and continued the process of searching for a mentor. For the challenges of managing a band, the few that I have encountered so far include maintaining the motivation and engagement of the band, as well as to accommodating everyone’s schedules and setting up band practices. Another challenge would be making sure everyone is practicing and participating such that the rehearsals we have are as productive as possible. How I would personally define band management would be organizing and managing the different aspects of the band, as well as motivating and encouraging band members. Some of the roles that I have taken and skill that I have began practicing in this area include organizing date and practices and guiding the process of learning songs and also leading in the recording of or work.
Andrea that looks amazing holy moly I would buy that for $1000
Wow! This sounds awesome Kevin! I can’t wait to see your final product.
